VivoBarefoot Wild Swim Robe review: the changing robe we reach for after every outdoor sauna
We tested the VivoBarefoot Wild Swim Robe through a damp British spring of outdoor sauna sessions and cold dips, and it has quietly become the thing the team reaches for first when stepping off the deck. This is a short note on why.
What it is
The Wild Swim Robe is a unisex, knee-length hooded changing robe in a deep navy organic cotton terry-loop towelling. It is made for the moment between water and warmth — pulled on over a wet swimsuit after a plunge, or thrown on between sauna rounds when the air bites.
It is not a technical shell. It is a proper, generous towelling robe, designed to dry you off and keep you warm while you do the slow, civilised business of getting dressed outside.
Why it suits UK outdoor sauna culture
Most UK outdoor sauna evenings end the same way: you are barefoot on wet decking, the wind has found you, and you have about ninety seconds before you start to shiver. A thin micro-fibre towel does not solve that. A waterproof shell traps your wet skin against cold nylon. The Wild Swim Robe is the right middle answer — soft enough to dry you, thick enough to actually warm you, long enough to change underneath in public without theatrics.
The roomy hood is the detail we did not know we needed. Pulled up over wet hair on a March evening, it is the difference between a good post-sauna mood and a long, cold walk back to the car.
The features that matter
A few things from VIVO’s spec that we noticed in real use: the organic cotton terry-loop towelling is heavy and absorbent without feeling stiff; the cut is genuinely roomy so you can change underneath it; the knee length covers more than most “changing ponchos” do; the deep front pocket is warm enough to thaw a hand or hold a key and a phone; and it is made in a factory running on renewable energy.
It is also part of Rapanui’s Remill take-back programme — when it eventually wears out, you send it back and it is remade into new fabric, rather than ending up in landfill. That is the kind of detail we look for in the kit we recommend.
Would we recommend it?
Yes, without hesitation, for anyone running a regular outdoor sauna, cold-water or wild-swim ritual in this country. It is one of the few pieces of post-sauna kit that has earned a permanent hook by the door.
